BAUXITE – Bauxite Lady Miners basketball Coach Greg Chenault made the most of his two seasons at the helm, but will be heading west in the state after officially accepting the headcoaching job as the boys basketball coach at Russellville High School on Tuesday. In fact, two Chenaults will be leaving Bauxite as cheer coach and teacher Karen Chenault also departs for Russellville.

The basketball Chenault leaves Bauxite after leading the Lady Miners to a 44-21 record, including a 4A State Tournament appearance. While Chenault said it was a pleasure to coach the Lady Miners, he is more at home coaching the boys, where he was an assistant coach at Bauxite prior to the Lady Miners, and led a boys AAU squad to a national runnerup finish.

“I’ve enjoyed coaching girls but most of my background is in boys,” Chenault explained. “I’ve been itching to coach boys again.”

While Chenault is from Saline County, where all three of he and Karen’s children graduated from high school, and graduated from Benton, going to Russellville is also sort of a homecoming as he also played basketball at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville.

“Russellville basketball has a tradition of winning and I want to continue the winning tradition and achieve new heights for this school and community,” Chenault said in a Russellville School District press release. “The community of Russellville, along with the RSD, is a special place and it is an honor to be employed here while leading these young men to do special things.”
