The Benton Courier

LETTTER TO THE EDITOR

Matt Brumley and the Quorum Court: Shame on you! I have always been proud to live in Saline County with two of the most outstanding libraries, but lately, I have felt like I was living in Salem, Massachusetts, watching innocent people accused of ridiculous crimes.

You are using your political clout in a negative way that has led to demeaning many innocent people who work with dedication at the library. You are about to destroy an institution that has enriched our community quietly and steadily for generations.

For years I volunteered at the library and spent a good amount of time shelving books where I could simply observe the daily happenings. Positive energy buzzed all around me.

I am writing this letter because of Matt Brumley’s actions and emotionally charged words at the recent Library Board meeting which I found to be an embarrassing political stunt to simply grab the reins and budget monies of the library.

Saline County deserves leaders who calmly work through problems and questions with respect to all parties and ideas. Instead, you have already decided to undermine our libraries and librarians. A true shame because the learning and inspiration our libraries bring to countless citizens daily is -- priceless.

Saline County, please contact the Quorum Court members today and let them know you support our libraries and their staff! If you stay silent, they will never know how many of us truly support the library.
