Daugherty to be guest speaker at Annual Bauxite Reunion

The Bauxite Historical Association and Museum (BHAM) Board of Directors has finalized plans for the upcoming Bauxite Annual Reunion on Saturday, May 28, 2022. The special event be held at the Bauxite Community Hall,

6707 Benton Road,

Bauxite, Arkansas. Registration will begin at 10:00 A.M.

The annual membership meeting under the direction of BHAM Board President,

Joe E. DuVall, Jr., will begin promptly at 1:00 P.M. Committee reports will be reviewed and election of board vacancies will be conducted.

Phil Daugherty, a 1958 graduate of Bauxite High School, will be guest speaker for this event. Daugherty was born and raised in Bauxite. Daugherty is a graduate of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where he received his BA Degree in Sociology and Psychology and furthered his education at Oklahoma State University, receiving a Master’s Degree Developmental Health.

After 36 years with the State of Arkansas, Daugherty retired as Administrator of the Arkansas Health Center in Benton.

Daugherty is married to Sharron Jennings Daugherty, a retired school teacher who taught first grade for seven years at

Pine Haven Elementary School in Bauxite before transferring to Benton where she until her retirement. The Daugherty’s have two daughters and three grandchildren.

Prior to the reunion, the Friday Night Movie tradition will be held on Friday, May 27, with a double feature. “Rainbows Unfinished,“which was produced by Alcoa on the 50th anniversary of the company, reviews the development of the aluminum industry. This movie stars Alan Ladd as a young Charles Martin Hall, who discovered an economical method of extracting aluminum from the bauxite ore. The feature movie will be Zane Grey’s “Navada,“a 1944 production that was Robert Mitchum’s first feature performance.

Doors will open at 6:00 P.M. on Friday night, May 27, for the showing of the movies at the Bauxite Community Hall. Wilson “Flashlight” DuVall will be selling popcorn and soft drinks at the low, low prices enjoyed at the old Bauxite Theater of the past. DuVall will also be patrolling the aisles with flashlight in hand, as Rudy Faulkner once did, looking to quiet any shenanigans from the young-at-heart patrons.
